Ocular Oncology
Ocular oncology, or eye cancer, is a cancer that forms in tissues in and around the eye. Eye cancers can occur in the newborn, in children, and in adults. Given the rarity of eye tumors and the complexity of tumor management, there are very few centers in the world with exclusive research focus on eye tumors.
Principle investigators
Dr. Mamatha Reddy’s research at L V Prasad Eye Institute focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of retinoblastoma development and identification of novel drug targets. Her research is funded by the Department of Biotechnology and the Indian Council of Medical Research, Govt. of India.
She is also a member of the Institutional Ethics Committee for human studies and serves as a chairperson for the Scientific Research Committee at L V Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Rani Pallavi has comprehensive expertise and proficiency in cutting-edge omic technologies, such as genomics, transcriptomics, and single-cell technologies. Her research is not just about understanding the complexities of retinoblastoma chemotherapy resistance and metastasis, she views tumour heterogeneity as a crucial determinant of drug response and plans to tackle this challenge with an ambitious approach.
Her strategy involves integrating multi-level analyses of primary human tumours, encompassing cell lines, organoids, and patient-derived xenografts alongside zebrafish xenograft models.
