Submission process

If it is time for surgery, the patient is directed to patient care counselor. The patient then presents their health insurance credentials to the counselor, including the name of their health insurance provider or third party administrator (TPA). The patient will need to present the insurance number, or insurance card, or any other details of the insurance policy, along with a photo-identification document to the counselor. If the patient is employed through and Indian government service or Public Sector Unit, they must also present their employee identification card.

The counselor prepares the pre-authorization form and gets the patient’s signature. They then submit the documents to the insurance department 2 to 3 days before the scheduled survey (emergency procedures are processed on the same day).

If necessary, the counselor will also inform the patient for the need to follow-up with the insurance department and provides the contact information. The counselor then provisionally books the date for surgery.

Processing the Insurance Claim

The insurance provider or TPA will issue an approval letter that may defray full or partial cost of the procedure, with or without co-payment (where the patient is still expected to pay a portion – please check with your insurance provider for more details). If the letter has an option for enhancement, then the LVPEI insurance team will send the discharge summary, break up charges, and the final bill to the insurance company.

After sending the documents to the insurance company we will receive the final approval letter depending upon the terms and conditions of the policy. If a partial amount is sanctioned or co-payment is specified–or if the insurance coverage is denied-by the insurance provider or third party administrator, then the balance/full amount will need to be paid by the patient before their surgery.

Your surgery is now complete! At the time of discharge, if the process of enhancement is taking time, the patient can leave the hospital premises and the attendant can settle the bill too.
