The Champalimaud Translational Centre Of Eye Research
The Champalimaud Translational Centre of Eye Research (C-TRACER) is a research center at LVPEI focused on translational research in vision-related diseases. C-TRACER was setup in 2008 to help translate basic research into clinical applications and improve patient outcomes. C-TRACER was setup with support from the Champalimaud Foundation, based in Lisbon, Portugal.
Work at C-TRACER has also expanded to the understanding and use of stem cell biology of use in retinal diseases. Human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells have been used at LVPEI for their translational promise, and work is ongoing to translate these breakthroughs into a clinical setting.
