Smartphone with assistive technology

Smartphones these days have become essential part of our life. From communication to shopping, from travelling to paying bills, from banking to leisure, the usage of these devices have clearly escalated.

Furthermore, the advent of assistive technology has enabled individuals with vision loss to make use of smartphones as efficiently as their sighted peers. Besides the regular applications, they can now access a wide range of tools that assists them in their daily living.

In the last decade, both Google Playstore and Apple’s Appstore have been inundated with assistive apps that are exclusively designed for them. To bring this cutting edge technology to persons with vision loss, we keep organizing workshops wherein we train them from basics of using screen readers and screen magnifiers to using advance applications that currently exist in the market.

Highlights of the workshop:

  • Introduction to Assistive Technology in Android and iOS phones
  • Tutorials on using TalkBack and VoiceOver
  • Lessons on basic navigation gestures
  • Tutorials on using screen magnifiers
  • Training on using different applications through Assistive Technology
  • Hands-on sessions through guided assistance
  • Interaction with developers and engineers to design new innovation for existing challenges
