Accessible Books

Everyone must learn to read, write and count in order to enjoy intellectual freedom, gain information, derive a sense of personal security, and to access equal opportunities in society.

Persons with vision impairment can do this on an equal footing only when access to literature – whether for education or pleasure – is provided to them at par with their sighted peers. Our resource centre provides access to books in formats such as Audio books, Braille books and Large Print books.

Audio Books

Our Digital Audio Library is a great resource for students with vision loss who need to access study materials. The library carries audio books for a wide range of literature including in different subjects such as art, law, sociology, history, economics, geography, literature and much more for state, central and university based syllabi and competitive exams.

These audio books are also available in different languages such as English, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Marati, Sanskrit, and so on. The high quality audio books are distributed as per the choice of users in MP3 or Daisy format.

We are a member of popular accessible book portals such as Bookshare and Daisy Forum of India. You can become an individual member in these libraries through us and download a wide range of accessible books.

Braille Books

Braille is the building block for literacy, especially for the primary level students. It provides a critical advantage for learning grammar, language, math, science and music.

Braille helps to learn the structure of language such as how words are spelled, sentences are punctuated, and paragraphs are formatted. Learning Braille gives a reader the freedom to skim or reread materials at one’s own pace. It also enables active reading over passive listening. The boundless benefits of Braille are ensured to the users through our lending Braille Library that has a collection of over 300 stories in Braille. In addition there is a huge collection of Braille books on other topics such as grammar, nutrition, and first-aid etc., One can also request for academic or any other books of their choice to be embossed in Braille.

Large Print Books

Books printed in large font with good contrast are of immense help for persons with low vision who otherwise struggle reading regular textbook that are normally printed in N12 size.

However, except for a rare collection of children’s books, many books including academic text books printed in large font, are not commonly available in stores for ready usage.

Our centre provides support to persons with low vision by supplying high contrast large print books as per the unique requirement of individual users. Our centre has a huge collection of story books printed in large print. One can also request for academic or any other books of their choice to be printed in large font.

E-Books

As assistive technology is enabling persons with vision loss to make use of computers and smartphones, it is not uncommon that many these days prefer E-books for reading.  To meet their needs, we produce softcopies of the books that are required.

We also have a collection of E-books whose list you can view here.
