Biography
Dr Subhadra Jalali is the Network Director – Quality at LVPEI. Widely recognized for her work in the field of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), she is also the Director of the Newborn Eye Health Alliance (NEHA) at LVPEI, which provides neonatal eye care. She is also on the National Task Force on ROP, Government of India, and is an expert advisor on ROP to the Governments of Bangladesh and the Philippines.
Specializing in the management of advanced vitreoretinal conditions, ocular trauma, endophthalmitis, and primary genetic retinal degenerations, Dr Jalali has been associated with LVPEI as a faculty since 1993.
After completing her MBBS with distinction from Jammu University and her MS in Ophthalmology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, where she was awarded a silver medal, she pursued a Comprehensive Fellowship, including one year in Retina, at LVPEI.
She later completed fellowship training at the National Eye Institute, USA, in ocular genetic diseases, electrophysiology of vision, and ocular inflammation and uveitis. She also underwent a short-term fellowship program in the management of ROP and pediatric retinal disorders at the William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr Jalali has received several awards, including the Indian National Talent Search Award, the American Academy Achievement Award, the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, the AIOS P Siva Reddy International Award, the IJO Platinum Award, the IAPB Eye Health Leadership Award, and the Mother Teresa Award.
She has been instrumental in training over 350 national and global students in ROP and setting up ROP treatment and training centres through grants from Sightsavers (UK), Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust (UK), Orbis International (USA), and Cognizant Foundation (India), to name a few. She has over 750 presentations, 180 publications in national and international journals, and several book chapters to her credit.
Outside her professional work, Dr Jalali loves exploring diverse cultures and cuisines and has a keen interest in reading, dancing, and music.
