Biography
Dr Rajeev R Pappuru is the Vice-Chair at LVPEI and the network in-charge of all new project endeavours, human resources, and urban city centres across the LVPEI network. He previously served as the Head of Patient Care Services at LVPEI’s Kallam Anji Reddy campus in Hyderabad and Kode Venkatadri Chowdary campus in Vijayawada, and was instrumental in making the vitreoretinal service at the Kallam Anji Reddy campus one of the best retina services in the country during his tenure. As an astute surgeon and retinal imaging expert, Dr Pappuru enjoys an enviable level of trust and endorsement among peers for managing the most complex of vitreoretinal cases.
He completed his basic medical education from Osmania Medical College and his Master’s in Ophthalmology from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad. He followed this with a vitreoretinal fellowship from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He pursued his deep interest in retinal imaging with a fellowship at Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles, under the tutelage of the world leader in the subject, Dr SriniVas Sadda. Subsequently, Dr Pappuru set up the image reading centre at LVPEI.
Known for his technological prowess, Dr Pappuru has been the key driving force behind the development of CEREBRO, an indigenous self-check-in app at LVPEI. His penchant for teaching has made him a popular and sought-after mentor among the Gen Next of vitreoretinal surgeons. Academically, Dr Pappuru has widely published in leading international and national journals.
Dr Pappuru is described by those who know him as a reserved yet approachable person, a collected communicator with a high level of emotional intelligence. He is also known for the way he responds in difficult situations and his innovative approach. In his free time, Dr Pappuru enjoys nature, wildlife and photography.
