Vision restored, Meera now walks with a new confidence
Published 4th March 2019
When Meera first came to LVPEI, she was clinging on to her husband as she could not see with both her eyes due to a rare disease called Sclerokeratitis. From her childhood, she had had redness in her eyes and as she grew older, she had slowly started losing her eyesight, She had even ventured out of her small village in Maharashtra, in the pursuit of treatment, but was thwarted by the huge expense quoted by the various eye hospitals she approached.
Eventually, a few years later, a doctor in Silu, Maharashtra, referred her to LVPEI where TKCI faculty Dr Somasheila Murthy first did a corneal transplantation in her right eye, followed by another operation in the left eye after a few months. Now after getting her vision back, Meena walks confidently as she looks forward to returning home to take care of her two children.
