Pioneering pediatric eye care – First slit lamp installed at NIMS for early uveitis detection in children

The Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic at NIMS has installed a slit lamp as part of the JIA-U Screening Tool (JUST) Program, the first initiative of its kind in India. This program aims for early detection of asymptomatic uveitis in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), enabling timely referral and intervention to prevent vision loss. It also establishes a collaborative care model between rheumatology and ophthalmology. This milestone, supported by Dr Ankush Kapoor, Pharm NXT Biotech, marks a significant step toward preventing avoidable blindness in vulnerable children.
